May 2017 — Stephanie Pianka has been appointed to the newly created position of Senior Vice President for Finance and Budget and Chief Financial Officer at New York University.
Following a nationwide search, Pianka was selected after serving since 2012 as NYU’s Vice President for Financial Operations and University Treasurer. She will assume her new position June 15.
“Over the last five years, Stephanie has proven herself again and again: smart, efficient, far-sighted, innovative, hard-working, unfailingly collegial, and an excellent leader,” said Martin Dorph, Executive Vice President, Finance and Information Technology “In her new role, we will look for Stephanie to bring those characteristics to a larger stage.”
Pianka will be responsible for overseeing the university’s finances and for setting the financial strategy that supports NYU’s research and teaching missions. She will oversee ongoing improvements in financial operations along with the university’s key financial and business offices: Budget and Planning, Financial Operations and Treasury, Public Resources Administration, Global Finance, Internal Audit, and Campus Services.
In her previous role, Pianka was responsible for NYU’s financial operations and treasury, including more than one million financial transactions annually valued at over $3 billion. Among other accomplishments, she oversaw the largest bond offerings in NYU’s history, at the lowest borrowing costs.
Prior to joining NYU, Stephanie held a number of finance, management, and operations positions across different industries and with major firms such as Avaya, a global provider of telecommunications solutions, GE, and Data General.
Pianka received her B.A. in computer science from SUNY-Oswego, and her M.B.A. from NYU’s Stern School of Business.
